Ancient History with Ancient Literature

What: This course is a integrated history and literature high school level course (9th-12th grades) intended to introduce the student to the major pieces and authors of the Ancient World, within the proper historical context. This course will involve both writing and reading. We will be reading short and long fiction pieces from Ancient Literature such as Plato, Aristotle, and Greek plays, as well as a full-range of primary documents from the time period. You will be learning how to read, think about, analyze, argue with, and present ideas about history and literature. In class, we will discuss the historical time period, as well as the works of literature we are reading.  This course will count as 2 high school credits:  Ancient History and Ancient Literature.

Who: My name is Brandy Dahlen. I have a master's degree in history from the University of Cambridge, and I have taught at UAB, Jeff State, and Excelsior co-op.

When: Thursdays from 1:30-2:30 September 2017-May 2018

Where: At my home in Pelham

Costs: The course is $450/year or $250 per semester.  $50 deposit due upon enrollment to reserve a space with the balance due by the first day of class. Enrollment will be limited to the first 15 students. Class size is kept small to enhance discussion.  Because of limited class sizes, all payments are non-refundable.
